Default 12/5/09 2PM - ??? Hunter's Annual Barbecue
Hunter Offroad Annual Barbecue

December 5th, 2009

Tempe, AZ

3 PM - ???

Local Fabrication Shop Hunter Offroad holds a barbecue every year around Christmas Time. Over the years it has blossomed into a huge event for the Jeep Crowd here in AZ. I'll confirm, but I think this is the 11th annual!

We'd love for Offroad Passport to have a nice presence at the barbecue this year.

The event actually begins at 4 or 5 in the afternoon, but in years past the parking lot fills up early. Realistically we should try to be there by 2:00 PM so we can park in a cluster.

Everyone brings something to contribute to the barbecue: burgers, dogs, buns, salads, deserts, chips, etc. We can either go in on something or each bring something, let's decide.

There is an articulation ramp where people measure the flex of their jeeps, there is a big raffle at the end. In years past Mike Fissel of the Jeep Expeditions Group was collecting for Toys-For-Tots.

I'll post the detail as I get them! Sign up here!

Time for the sorta infamous Hunter's BBQ!

Saturday, Dec 5th, 3:00 PM

Here's the gist. Everyone brings a little bit of food, and there is plenty for everyone. One huge pot luck. Bring a apck of burgers, a pack of hot dogs or soda. Bring a side dish, bean dip or ketchup, etc.

Most important things of the BBQ...

Bring some chairs, bring some food or drinks to share, bring a camera.

I have some T-shirts left from last, mostly X-larges for 10.00 and the sorta-famous Strap Locks will be on hand as well for 20!

Back in 2004, Bill Hoven put together a great video of the BBQ. Take a peek and check it out.

1) First Rule,

And most important. Food. Everyone brings a little. Everyone will have alot. Bring a side dish, bring a few bottles of ketchup, plates, drinks what ever. If you can, post what you are bring here so some folks can get an idea what you are bringing. One thing I ask.... If you buy meat, try and buy matching buns, helps cut down on being too lopsided. Bring a cooler with ice and have a freind bring sodas or water. You get the idea.

2) The W's of the BBQ

Where: Hunter Offroad Parking lot 625 S Smith Suite 1 Tempe Az 85281

When 3:00 PM Saturday, Dec. 5th. It will kick-off at 3 O'clock Parking lot will be full by 3:02. If you want to get in the parking lot and have a good spot lot, come early. Parking lot will be open by 12:00 if you are bring a trailer, please park it down the street to save room for the rigs who cant get into the parking lot

3) RTI Ramp,
It will be good times as usualy on the Ramp. Show everyone what you got. See if you improved over last year. Or just have fun and flex out for the camera. Lot's of pictures and probaly some tire climbing. But, with the general nonsense of peopel drving up on wheels, its fun, but easy to get carried away. A few rules to remember:

No Rolling Off The Ramp on purpose. 3 of you little mayhem jokers did last year..
Also, No 4 Cycle drag races and no climbing the walls...

4) The Infamous "Screw 'Em Raffle

I know last year I had some local business really kick in for the raffle. I am always looking for things to dontate, 4x4 related or not... All the proceeds go help cover some costs of the BBQ then rest goes to a chairty or a good cause we pick as a group.

Welcome our first Sponsers to help out..

JPCooloers Simply one of the best coolers out there for your Jeep or 4x4. They rock. True Story.

The Raffle Overview. 1 Dollar a Ticket. 12 for 10 bucks.

If you wear a Hunter Offroad T-shirt, or If you deck out your ride in Christmans decoartion, you will also get free tickt for that. All profits go to help pay for the BBQ (uh, the bathrooms) and whatever is left over goes to Charity. Last year we donated to the AZOHVC who has been leading the fight to keep our trails open, most notably did a lot of good for us concerning the dust issues. Last year I handed over 500 dollars.

Also, if you want to bring can food items, I will make sure they get to St Mary's..

5) Personal Beverages at the BBQ?

I have NEVER had a problem with folks having some cold ones in all the years I have been doing this, (over a decade) but I have bring it up. Only thing I ask, remember, it is a family event, so take care and mind your self. It is private property so you can enjoy. So, if you like to bring some cold ones and talk shop with your buddies, go ahead and play nice and be prepared to share with the host. And just like the year's before.. dont ask what's mixed with my soda.

6) Selling stuff Swap meet ideas.
Usually folks will want to bring stuff and try and sell or swap stuff. I have no problem.. Thats what this is all about. Got some old shocks or Jeep parts, bring and put them on display. Old winch you wanna sell? Only rule, dont bring so much stuff, that is takes up room in the parking lot for people to park. If you have something bigger, leave it on the street. I want to save room for folks to setup their chairs, and allow as much room for people to park as possible in the lot.

7) Kitchen Help
I need BBQ's and tables for the food... always do. More the better. From the past, 5 normal size grills can cook all we need im the time to feed everyone. Be a hero and bring a grill. We are always looking for volunteers to help. Also, anyone want to run the kitchen area? I have found it does help to have alittle direction.

Toys For Tots.

We have become pretty famous for this over the years. Bring a new, unwrapped toy and make a kid smile somewhere. Each year we have been getting bigger and Bigger. Lots set a new record this year!

Also if anyone wants to donate to the raffle, Please contact me. In year's past we have had gift certificates for a restaurant other club members bought, to a free therapy massage by a another club member's private business, gift cards, or even the classic re-gift.

Email: hunteroffroad@aol.com
or call 480-557-7577

Do not to forget to bring Tables and chairs to sit on too for you and for others. Also, I will need BIG tables for Kitchen Area. Contact me if you have some. Will need at least 4 to 5 3x8 tables.

I think that about covers it, but I know I probably forgot something. Be in touch with everyone. Take care. Stay tuned for updates.

Best Regards
John "Hunter" K.

Hey everybody!

Here's somemore info:

Hunter's Offroad is located at 625 S Smith, Tempe, AZ. Here's a link to a map: http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Te...eocode=ADDRESS

It's easy to find, but if you're coming from the east, exit the 202 at Dobson, go south to University and then west to Smith. You can't exit to University from southbound 101.

I'm not sure what you should do if you're coming from the west, but I'd recommend exiting the 202 at McClintock, go south to University and then east to Smith.

The BBQ starts at 3:00 and like Jon Hunter said, it will be full at 3:02. The parking lot opens at noon, we're going to try to get there at Noon. You all can do the same or whatever suits you, but if we want to park together, we'd recommend early arrival.

The kids are welcome, there will be lots of little ones there. Jon said we could let them sit in the Sheriff Buggy and he might hit the lights and siren.

Remember a toy for Toys for Tots if you're so inclined.

Also, remember to bring something to pitch in for the bbq. I'm not sure what we're bringing yet. All food is welcome, though.

Hope to see a bunch of ORP folks there!

Unfortunately, I'm going to skip the BBQ tomorrow. I've been feeling under the weather all week with some kind of cold/flu thing, and I don't think I should be spreading it around.

Have fun without me, and I'll catch up to you guys next time.
